Extreme Durability
Godzilla possesses one of the most resilient bodies in the MonsterVerse, protected by immensely durable skin and scales capable of withstanding conventional weapons, catastrophic impacts, and direct attacks from other Alpha-class Titans. His defenses are not absolute, however, as softer anatomical structures such as the gills and specialized targets such as the dorsal plates can still be damaged.

Mechanisms & Combat Analysis
Canon LoreBiological Armor Structure & Impact Resistance
Godzilla's body is covered in extremely thick, rugged skin and scale-like dermal structures that function as natural biological armor. Rather than being a separate shell, this protection is integrated into an extraordinarily robust system of tissue, musculature and bone capable of supporting his enormous mass while surviving deep-ocean pressure, destructive collisions and close-quarters combat with other Titans.
In Godzilla (2014), conventional artillery and missiles generally fail to inflict serious damage. A strike to his gill region causes a much stronger pain response, establishing an important distinction between the heavily protected exterior of his body and the softer respiratory structures along his neck.
His resistance to blunt trauma is equally formidable. Godzilla routinely survives being knocked through structures, slammed to the ground and struck by creatures possessing comparable Titan-level strength. Godzilla: Aftershock, however, demonstrates that this durability has limits: MUTO Prime can physically stagger Godzilla and possesses a specialized sonic attack evolved to shatter the dorsal plates of Godzilla's species.
Resistance to Nuclear Weapons and Titan Attacks
One of Godzilla's most extraordinary durability feats is surviving nuclear detonations. Castle Bravo was used against him in 1954 without successfully killing him. Because Godzilla is a radiation-feeding organism, nuclear detonations present an unusual interaction between destructive heat and pressure and a source of energy his metabolism can utilize. In King of the Monsters, Serizawa detonates a nuclear warhead beside the critically weakened Godzilla; rather than destroying him, the radiation dramatically accelerates his recovery and replenishes his energy.
Against King Ghidorah, Godzilla withstands bites, impacts and repeated Gravity Beam attacks. During the Boston confrontation, Ghidorah carries him to an enormous altitude and drops him back to Earth. The impact leaves Godzilla severely injured and temporarily incapacitated but fails to kill him, demonstrating the extreme resilience of his skeletal and internal structures.
During Godzilla vs. Kong, Godzilla endures repeated physical attacks from Kong and blows from an axe constructed around a dorsal plate belonging to another member of Godzilla's species. Immediately afterward, an exhausted Godzilla is forced to confront Mechagodzilla. This battle establishes an important upper limit to his defensive abilities: Mechagodzilla's superior mechanical strength, missiles and Proton Scream progressively overwhelm him and nearly kill him before Kong intervenes.
Godzilla Evolved demonstrates even greater resilience in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. He rapidly recovers after being stunned by Kong's B.E.A.S.T. Glove and continues trading physical attacks with the vastly massive Shimo. Shimo's Frostbite Blast is capable of encasing Godzilla in ice, yet once Mothra creates an opening he breaks free and resumes fighting, contrasting sharply with the severe frostbite suffered by Kong and the eventual freezing and destruction of Skar King.
Anatomical Weak Points: Gills & Dorsal Plates
Godzilla's protection is not uniform across his anatomy. His gills are the clearest recurring vulnerable point. Strikes against this region provoke considerably stronger reactions than attacks against his armored torso, consistent with the gills being softer respiratory organs that cannot possess the same degree of external protection.
The dorsal plates are another structure that can be damaged under specialized circumstances. In Aftershock, MUTO Prime employs a resonant sonic roar specifically evolved to shatter the dorsal structures of Godzilla and related creatures. The attack breaks Godzilla's plates and temporarily incapacitates him. The damage is not permanent, however, as Godzilla later regenerates his dorsal array.
Consequently, Godzilla's 'invulnerability' is best understood as extraordinary resistance rather than literal immunity. Most conventional attacks are insignificant against him, but sufficiently powerful Titans, attacks aimed at vulnerable anatomy, or specialized biological countermeasures can still inflict serious injury.
