Radiation Absorption

Godzilla belongs to an ancient lineage adapted to an era when naturally occurring radiation was more abundant near Earth's surface. Rather than suffering damage from radiation in the manner of ordinary organisms, his biology metabolizes it as an energy source. This radiation sustains his body while also supplying the bio-atomic system responsible for Atomic Breath and Nuclear Pulse.

The clearest demonstration occurs in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. After the Oxygen Destroyer critically injures him, Godzilla retreats to an ancient lair where surrounding radiation can gradually restore him. Because the natural process could take an extremely long time, Serizawa detonates a thermonuclear warhead beside him. Godzilla survives, absorbs the released nuclear energy, rapidly recovers, and returns to battle carrying far more power than normal.

Godzilla Dominion emphasizes that even an Alpha Titan does not possess limitless reserves. Following the Ghidorah crisis, Godzilla is exhausted and increasingly hungry for radiation while continuing to regulate Titan activity around the planet. His need for both rest and nourishment directly affects his combat performance.

In 2024, after detecting an approaching Hollow Earth threat, Godzilla deliberately begins gathering extraordinary quantities of energy. He raids a nuclear facility in France and absorbs its reactor energy, becoming Supercharged. He then seizes Tiamat's Arctic territory, an exceptionally energy-rich environment, and uses its reserves to complete his metamorphosis into Evolved Godzilla.

Godzilla can absorb extraordinary quantities of radiation, but his storage and regulation are not unlimited. His pre-Burning condition in 2019 demonstrates that excessive nuclear energy can push his physiology toward dangerous thermonuclear overload. His 2024 evolution substantially increases his capacity and thermoregulatory control.
