Kamoebas of the Showa era (大亀怪獣 カメーバ, Daigame Kaijū Kamēba — Giant Spiny Turtle Kaiju / Space Amoeba Reptile) is the third and final monster to complete the Sergio Island trinity in Toho’s 1970 tokusatsu science fiction classic *Space Amoeba* (Japanese: *Gezora, Ganimes, Kamoebas: Kessen! Nankai no Daikaijū* / Decisive Battle! Giant Monsters of the South Seas), directed by Ishirō Honda with special effects directed by Sadamasa Arikawa. Following the demise of Gezora and the destruction of the first Ganimes, the extraterrestrial energy parasite **Yog** (*Space Amoeba*) divided its cellular consciousness to simultaneously possess a second rock crab (Ganimes II) and an indigenous mata-mata turtle (*Chelus fimbriata*). Mutated into a 20-meter-tall, 28,000-metric-ton quadrupedal juggernaut, Kamoebas boasts a formidable triangular shell bristling with pyramid-like spikes and a spring-loaded accordion neck capable of launching a 10-meter predatory strike with bone-crushing beak force. When human survivors unleashed swarms of cave bats to sever Yog's psychic control with ultrasonic echolocation pulses, Kamoebas succumbed to feral madness, engaging Ganimes II in a ferocious brawl along the rim of the active Mount Maumau volcano until both titans tumbled into the boiling caldera to their mutual destruction.
