Gorosaurus represents an evolutionary marvel of isolated prehistoric survival. An offshoot of the Jurassic and Cretaceous theropod dinosaur family Allosauridae, ancestors of Gorosaurus evaded the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event by residing in the secluded biosphere of Mondo Island in the South Pacific. Over tens of millions of years of uninterrupted evolution, the species grew to monstrous proportions—reaching 35 meters in height and 8,000 metric tons—dominating the island's primeval ecosystem.

In 1967, when a United Nations expeditionary crew led by Commander Carl Nelson arrived on Mondo Island, Gorosaurus stalked Lieutenant Susan Watson before being intercepted by the island's reigning titan, King Kong.

By the late 20th century (the chronological setting of 1968's Destroy All Monsters), a larger specimen measuring 50 meters tall and 20,000 metric tons was relocated to the ecological sanctuary of Monsterland in the Ogasawara archipelago, coexisting peacefully alongside Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra, and Anguirus.

Gorosaurus embodies the muscular, textured aesthetics of classical 20th-century theropod paleontology:
